At first glance it feels controlled. Structured. Almost rigid.
Look closer — and you see tension.
“Don’t PIN Me Down” is built from industrial push pins placed one by one into a surface. Each pin identical. Each position intentional. From distance, the composition reads as a solid visual field. Up close, it dissolves into micro-decisions — pressure, angle, depth, shadow.
It is a study in restraint versus freedom.
Pins are objects of fixation. They hold paper in place. They define borders. They secure ideas to a surface. In this work, they become the message itself. A paradox: using fixation to speak about autonomy.
Light plays a critical role. Directional lighting creates thousands of micro-shadows. The piece changes character during the day — sharp and graphic in strong light, soft and almost textile in ambient conditions. Touch becomes tempting. Order feels tactile.
