01 / The artwork
One circle.
A world of detail.
From across the room, a single sculptural form. Up close, a landscape of clear and matte lenses.
The LED elements reflect the light around them. Daylight, a change in angle or carefully directed illumination reveals different layers of the surface. The experience unfolds as you spend time with it.
Created by Alain van Dijk and Matthijs Wateler, LED it BE brings a familiar technological component into the world of art.
Actual surface detail
02 / Material & making
Come closer.
250,000 elements.
Placed by hand.
Specially produced DIP LEDs, ranging from 3 to 12 mm, create a dense, irregular relief. Their rounded lenses combine transparency with a soft, matte finish.
Light caught in the surface.
Clear elements catch small highlights. Matte elements scatter the surrounding light more softly. Together, they give the artwork its depth.
Time made visible.
Each element is positioned individually. The making of the large work involved three months of hand placement, building its texture piece by piece.
03 / A change in atmosphere
Shaped by reflection.
Framed by light.
Separate illumination brings out the surface. A soft, dimmable rear halo gives the circular form a gentle outline against the wall.
The tiny LED elements remain unlit. Their character comes from the way they receive and reflect light.

In every dimension.
A generous scale gives the surface room to reveal itself. Consider the wall, the viewing distance and the changing light of the space around it.

A few details
Before you
come closer.
Do the individual LEDs light up?
No. The LED elements in the surface are not electrically illuminated. They catch and reflect light from their surroundings. The illumination directed at the artwork and the rear halo are separate.
Can I discuss LED it BE for my interior?
Yes. Send us a photograph or drawing of the intended space and a few details about your project. We can discuss scale, placement, lighting and the possibilities for a commission.
Where can I experience it at EXCELLENT?
LED it BE will be presented at EXCELLENT Woonbeurs, 26–29 November 2026. Find the YourSenses team at stand 581 in Hall 5, opposite Waag Design, for the artwork’s presentation location. You can also contact us before your visit.
